Apple Map: Recreation of Inception
Inception is a movie directed by
one of the most promising directors in Hollywood now. Inception takes you into
the world inside your head. It explains some concepts in psychoanalysis but the
beauty of the world inside your head is that you can incept anything in your
mind, as long as you don’t subconsciously hurt the mind itself. The world of
the unconscious brings a beauty to recreating the world. You can alter reality
itself. You can create tall buildings, streets, and cars. But, you can also
literally bend those or distort them. You can disfigure or reconfigure anything
that’s inside the mind. However, Apple takes it literally.
With the release of the iOS 6 is
Apple’s latest edition of Apple Maps. It promised to be a good map that can
offer many things including directions, 3D view and the like. Of course, since
people have hastily updated their phones to the latest iOS, they expect Apple
Maps to be a beautiful map, probably a better map than Google Maps. However, as
it turns out, Apple Maps is one of the worst maps you can even imagine.
Perhaps, it’s not a map at all. The London Underground has even distributed
real maps to unfortunate iOS 6 Apple Maps users. The success of the iPhone 5
propaganda may have been enveloped by the embarrassment of Apple Maps.
Apple Maps has been criticized
for its pure failure. The map does not only dislocate places, it has also
altered reality itself. The Toronto airport’s main runways have become bumpy.
Details on the map seem to have disappeared yet you will still know where Apple
stores are located. The map gives you incorrect directions and bridges seem to
have combined with the road beneath them. Israel’s capital, Jerusalem,
disappeared. We just hope that people in Jerusalem will not have a hard time
looking for their own house on Apple Maps. Apple Maps seems to have created
another raison d’etre, which is to entertain lost and bored people. You just
sell your phone instead
and get a decent map.
Apple CEO Tim Cook apologized for
this incident. They have been repairing the system so it will work once it is
released once more to the public. The embarrassment of Apple Maps was far
beyond what Apple expected. Cook says that users can download map apps shortly
as the repairs are ongoing. The funny part was when he mentioned their biggest
competitor’s product, Google Maps. Since Google Maps are highly accurate and
well verified, Google Maps has become a reliable source of information and
direction. Cook may have realized this but to openly advertise the enemy’s
product is certainly a shocker, considering that Apple has never wavered from Google’s
move of trampling them down. The move from Cook may have been a mistake but
others consider this a bold move from the stereotypical Apple that hates
Google. They see that Cook just wants to provide Apple users with the best
possible service available in the online market today. But until then, Apple
will always try to recreate the world. Hopefully, not the literal way.
